Taking One For The Team

I am overcome with laundry. Though Molly looks small, she is a producer in mass quantities of laundry. You see, she tends to spit up. And sometimes it's more than spitting up. Sometimes she gushes. Which means a new outfit, a new onesie, a new blanket. . . and more laundry.

Garry is really trying to help out. He puts a load in the washer in the morning before work so that when I wake up I can put it in the dryer and hopefully put it away, if all goes well.

He helps carry the laundry up and down the three flights of stairs (argh! townhouse!) and has been really good about putting his clothes away after I sort them out and put them on the bed.

Garry also irons all of his shirts every night to help get ready for work the next day. (I used to iron but then I caught him re-ironing what I had ironed, and that was the end of that).

But the biggest way he is helping out -- Garry has worn the same shirt four days in a row when he gets home from work. This thing is going to walk to the washer by the time he retires it, but hey, that's three fewer shirts that I have had to wash. Way to take one for the team!

I caught Tom doing the re-ironing thing too! He always ironed his own shirts, one shirt each night, and I thought I was doing him a favor one time by ironing a whole bunch at once. Then I caught him disappearing into the basement several nights in a row to surreptitiously re-iron each one. That's the end of my shirt ironing (and I'm not sad about it).

Yes, apparently I was not very thorough on ironing. Something about wrinkled collar, blah, blah, blah. . .

When Riley was little, Scott had a habbit of wearing the same pair of basketball shorts each night when he got home from school. One day she asked him point blank, "Dada, when are your shorts going to be dirty?"

I don't iron Lincoln's stuff either . . . his standards are higher than mine, so naturally, the task HAS to lie with him. I think it is great that Garry helps with the laundry, but that is one thing my husband is FORBIDDEN to do. . . I beg him not to do the laundry! and you can probably guess why . . .

I am so happy to hear that somebody else out there obviously has an ironing pile! Right now mine is about 3 movies high! A great opportunity to watch the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice!

I grew up with a mom who ironed everything right down to white undershirts...so I have mastered hanging things up right out of the dryer. Other than church clothes I don't iron anything.

My ironing for Mike stopped with a similar experience, now is the the King of the iron in our house...he claims to like it...but so does my 92 year old grandma - she says she gets satisfaction in watching the wrinkles disappear :)

I remember when Billy was about two and my mom was here. She was using the ironing board and Billy was running around. She said I guess he is not use to be around the ironing board and I said well I don't think I have ever had it out when he is around. What's the dryer for anyway?

Lance takes one for the team too. But sometimes I wish he wouldn't. : )
