Before today, I would have said that before September 11th the only time the U.S. got attacked was Pearl Harbor. But, this morning I was reading Seven Miracles That Saved America and read about the Japanese submarine attack of an oil refinery 12 miles from Santa Barbara, California. There was also a submarine attack off of the coast of Oregon.
Who knew???

My grandfather on my mother's side's tour of duty during WWII was to "patrol" the pacific coast. He always felt bad that he didn't get into the "real" war and go across the sea.
